Shelly Fairchild Hits “Mississippi Turnpike” for Some Soul-Searching

June 26, 2017 klrp1650 0

by Samantha Stephens 7h ago Sometimes to find yourself, you have to go home again. For Shelly Fairchild, the message of “Mississippi Turnpike” struck a chord. She was at a similar place in life when the song about reconnecting with roots landed in her lap. “When I first heard it, I had just gone through a tough time in my personal life,” the singer/songwriter said in Out and About magazine. “I was headed home to Mississippi to get a recharge with my family, and my producer Carey [Ott] who’s one of the writers on the song, sent it to me because it’s about going back home.” The Mississippi native has long been a staple and treasure of the Nashville scene, with her incredible vocals and sound mixing roots, soul, rock, country and even gospel. Martina McBride is a big fan and has had Fairchild out to open shows for her. […]

Miranda Lambert Gives Ashley McBryde a Boost

June 26, 2017 klrp1650 0

by Alison Bonaguro 27 mins ago Miranda Lambert has more than 6 million followers on Twitter. So when she posts a video, you can be sure a lot of people will watch it. That must’ve been the case Saturday (June 24) when Lambert caught McBryde’s opening set when they shared the bill at LakeShake, Chicago’s country music festival. Shortly after McBryde took the stage, Lambert posted an 11-second video of the country newcomer performing her single “Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega.” (Coincidentally, Dahlonega, a small town in Georgia, is where Zac Brown was raised.) “Little Dive Bar In Dahlonega”loved watching @ashleymcbryde at @LakeShakeFest. A GIRL singing a COUNTRY song she wrote. #morelikthisplease — Miranda Lambert (@mirandalambert) June 24, 2017 McBryde didn’t respond until later that night, but when she did, she thanked Lambert for the support. You’re right @mirandalambert we SHOULD BE friends. Thank you so much for the […]

Dierks Bentley’s Son Recovering From Fall

June 24, 2017 klrp1650 0

by Alison Bonaguro 6/23/2017 Last week at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado, just as Dierks Bentley was getting ready for his set, reflecting on his good fortune and thinking to himself, “This is the best day of my life. I’m singing songs with these heroes of mine and we’re in Telluride,” that’s when he got the call no parent ever wants to get about his 3-year-old son Knox. “We were renting a house there with a bunch of people and there’s a loft above the bunk beds, and so about 12 or 13 feet, and (Knox) thought his grandfather was going to catch him. Obviously there was miscommunication there,” Bentley told reporters in Nashville at Thursday’s (June 22) party celebrating the success of his recent single, “Black.” Knox fell to the floor and broke his arm in two places. But Bentley knows that a fall like that could been […]

Dierks Bentley Celebrates a Hit With Co-Writers of “Black”

June 24, 2017 klrp1650 0

by Lauren Tingle 23h ago The voice memo Dierks Bentley sent Ashley Gorley and Ross Copperman at 6:30 a.m. with the original chorus idea for “Black” is still saved on Gorley’s phone. But there wasn’t enough time to bust it out at Thursday’s (June 22) party celebrating the song’s success. Plaque presentations for and speeches by the three hitmakers lasted a quick 30 minutes at Ernest Hemingway’s Bar & Hideaway. The new restaurant-lounge launched in the Wedgewood/Houston neighborhood in May, and the open bar happy hour had to be wrapped before the evening dinner rush. But it was a fitting spot to celebrate the song, which is among Bentley’s most creative releases to date. His wife Cassidy’s maiden name Black inspired the title, so it’s romantic to think that she was the first thought he had that morning before they wrote the song. “I found the voice memo Dierks sent […]

Little Big Town: The Wine Revelations

June 23, 2017 klrp1650 0

by Alison Bonaguro 7h ago There must be something in the wine. Because when Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet sat down for an interview with Entertainment Tonight, and they started drinking some red and some white wine, the truths started to pour out. Some more revealing than others. Fairchild admitted that she was once thrown out of a dry casino one time because they were drinking. That she has taken a drink right from the wine bottle before. And that the band has written some great songs while drunk. Schlapman admitted that when the band was just getting started, they played a lot of “Never Have I Ever” in their van just to kill time on the road. And that she once fell on to Dolly Parton and she was very cushy. Westbrook admitted that the band has written a few ridiculous — […]

Kiefer Sutherland Brings Extra Star Power to Cinematic Video for “Shirley Jean”

June 23, 2017 klrp1650 0

by Samantha Stephens 7h ago Kiefer Sutherland’s cinematic new video for “Shirley Jean” could so easily play on the big screen. The heart-wrenching, timeless tune follows in the tradition of dark and visceral storytellers like Hank Williams Sr. and Johnny Cash and tells the tragic story of a man imprisoned on death row whose hard life was made brighter only by the love of one woman: Shirley Jean. As he spends his last night on Earth, preparing for his death, he writes a final letter to his long lost beloved. “I never had love, but the closest was you,” he sings. They just don’t write them like that anymore, do they? Helping bring this story to life in the superb video is actor Robert Knepper, who plays “T-Bag” on the TV series Prison Break. Combine Knepper’s powerfully subtle portrayal of the character with the supporting cast, the location, and Sutherland’s […]

Carrie Underwood Will Get Terrazzo and Brass Treatment

June 23, 2017 klrp1650 0

by Alison Bonaguro 5h ago The Hollywood Walk of Fame that runs up and down Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street will soon be home to another country star’s star. Carrie Underwood is one of the latest honorees who will grace the sidewalk in 2018. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the class of 2018 on Thursday (June 22). Underwood’s star, made of terrazzo and brass, will be created and installed in a Walk of Fame ceremony, which will be open to the public. The way a celebrity is chosen for the Walk of Fame starts with a nomination. Anyone can nominate a celebrity as long as the celebrity or his/her management is in agreement with the nomination. Then the selection committee looks carefully at each nominee to make sure they have an eclectic group of talent that will appeal to all kinds of fans. Other honorees keeping Underwood company in […]

Kenny Chesney Calls on College Students to Direct New “All the Pretty Girls” Video

June 23, 2017 klrp1650 0

by Lauren Tingle 4h ago Kenny Chesney is calling on students from Nashville’s Belmont University and Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro to create the new video for Cosmic Hallelujah‘s next single “All the Pretty Girls.” The student director who submits the winning entry will receive a $5,000 scholarship that will be allocated to their tuition and a world video premiere on CMT. All concepts are welcome –lyric, live action, animation or something new that has never been done before. Chesney only has five rules: “Get creative. Get real. Get going. Get inside the song. Show how ‘All the Pretty Girls’ looks, feels and resolves. … “You live it, dream it, film it. Then send it to us,” Chesney says. “I’m looking for a video that captures what this song is really about, so I’m going to the source. Have some fun with it, and show us what you’ve got.” […]

Nebraskaland Days Mixes Cowboy Culture and Country Music

June 22, 2017 klrp1650 0

by Lauren Tingle 24h ago Brothers Osborne, Alan Jackson, Chris Stapleton, Dwight Yoakam and thousands more live music fans will enjoy a heavy dose of Cornhusker hospitality this weekend at the 2017 Nebraskaland Days in North Platte. Billed as Nebraska’s official state celebration, the 11-day event wraps with performances by Jackson and Yoakam on Friday (June 23) and Brothers Osborne and Stapleton on Saturday (June 24). The Stapleton concert will be his third performance back on tour after sustaining a hand injury that has sidelined him from his All-American Road Show since June 1. According to executive director, David Fudge, Nebraskaland Days attracts thousands of cowboy culture fans who come annually for the family friendly outdoor rodeo, carnival attractions, music and art shows. But they stay to enjoy the good company of the locals. “Nebraskans are known for being over the top friendly and we are that in North Platte,” […]
